In the same way that we take care of our body from any ailment caused by injuries or diseases, it is relevant to remember that the brain is part of it and, therefore, is one of our organs to protect.

But more than just another organ, it is the epicenter where our neurons are housed. They are constantly exchanging information with each other through neurotransmitters. Thanks to this process, we can manage our motor capacity, which allows us to perform and control our own body movements. It is also due to this process that we can manage our thoughts and even our feelings.

Thus, it is essential to opt for the well-being of our brain, to be able to move freely and also to enjoy optimal mental health.

However, there are several neurodegenerative diseases in which neurons are progressively and irreversibly lost. Some of these vary from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, dementia, among others.

While some of these conditions have no cure, there are several neuroprotectants that can help improve symptoms, relieve some pain, and improve mobility.

Can CBD serve as a neuroprotective treatment?

Although there are some neuroprotective drugs, it is necessary to address CBD and how it can be used as an alternative, even more efficient than any other neuroprotective drug.

To understand this, it is essential to address our endocannabinoid system (ECS) and look at the interaction CBD may have with it.

CBD is said to act as a supervisor of the proper functioning of the ECS. This leads to the production of anandamide (AEA), which blocks inhibitory enzymes. There are claims that AEA can have a direct effect on some neurodegenerative disorders.

Whether due to CBD’s influence on endocannabinoids or its effect on oxidative stress and inflammation, experts agree that CBD has a neuroprotective effect.

We can conclude then that CBD could be used as a natural neuroprotective treatment.
